The village itself at the base of the mountain is also very small. People here are a mixed bunch. Some very friendly, but a lot of the people on the mountain just lack basic alpine sports etiquette.

Amazing view though. |
Saturday on the mountain, conditions were not ideal. The mountain had frozen over and we stupidly take the aerial tram to the top and battle our way down in awful chunky ice. As the day wore on, the bottom of the mountain got really slushy, while the upper mountain was clumpy and icy. Boo.
We had lunch at Cafe 6311. Ridiculously expensive - 5.75 for a pb&j. And Harry found a twist-tie in his chili.
Dinner was at Bin 22, which is a really cute concept. It is a small market and wine shop connected to a small plates type of restaurant. When dining at the restaurant, you are free to pick a bottle of wine from the shop to have with dinner (and they charge retail price with no corking fee!).
The food was all really good as well.
Charcuterie and cheese platter.Lone meatball - I should have read the menu better. I expected more than one, for $8.
Lamb skewers - I did not have this, but everyone that ate it said it was good. The salad underneath was delicious though.
Bruschetta - good but a bit too much arugula for me to eat with bread.
Spanish salad - also very good. I loved the apples.
Gulf shrimp - delicious and garlicky, this was one of the favorites of the night.
Ribeye - really well cooked and flavorful. The kale and potatoes were also yummy.
Grilled octopus - more potatoes than octopus. But otherwise, good.
Mini ice cream sandwiches - could have been better. The ice cream was too icy.
Overall though, Bin 22 was great. I could have used a bit more variety in dishes, but I really enjoyed dinner here - the vibe was really relaxed.
Sunday was rainy and horrible on the mountain. We called it an early day and picked up lunch from The Bird. Wings and things. Their "hot" is actually very spicy. Good wings, but probably would have been better if we had eaten at the restaurant.

Cloudy with no chance of meatballs. Just rain. |
Monday. Monday was the best of the three days on the mountain for us. But, we were also the most tired. And once it got slushy, our legs were less likely to cooperate. Lunch was at the Casper Restaurant at the bottom of the Casper Quad. And it was actually really good. I had a very filling grilled cheese.

I could get used to these views. |
BBQ wings.
Mussels - with more fries than mussels. The mussels had a great smoked flavor though.
Tacos with carnitas.
My cowboy croque - this was delicious. And a perfect portion size for me.
Tai's BBQ platter - ginormous. But my real issue is that they served pickles right on the platter. And the pickle juice got on all the meats, making everything kind of sour. Which was really no bueno. And the ribs were tough. The sausage could have used flavor. The brisket and pulled pork were good, but not memorable.
Carter country steak.
Carter country burger.
Ribs.
Ice cream. :)
I found Tai!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't mention the yummy brussel sprouts! :p
